Ingen Engineers achieve IChemE Chartered status
Senior Management are delighted to announce the achievement of two of it’s process engineering staff. Alan Muirhead and Hamed Jerjisi, have gained chartered status with the institute of chemical engineers(the IChemE).
Alan will go on to enroll as a Mentor for Ingen’s recently implemented Approved Company Training (ACT) Scheme, accredited by the IChemE. Mentors work to counsel trainee engineers through the training over a period of 3-5 years tutoring and advising them through the range of experience required to achieve chartered status. It is Ingen’s policy to provide a comprehensive programme of training and experience, ensuring that all engineers seeking Chartered Engineer status develop a wide knowledge of appropriate professional engineering skills.
With several other members of the engineering team working towards achieving Chartered status, Ingen have no doubt that the quality of their team will continue to strengthen as 2011 progresses.
Ingen awarded ACT accreditation from the IChemE
Ingen is pleased to announce that they have been awarded official accreditation from the IChemE for their ACT Scheme. Ingen implemented an Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) approved training course for all non-chartered chemical engineers within the company.
At present there are several members of staff fully IChemE Chartered and a further 9 in training. The company is investing heavily in training and development of staff and believes that even in this current economic climate it is worthwhile and necessary to position the business for success going forward. Senior management believes the industry skills shortage is ever present even in this fragile economic environment and wants to position the company for future growth.
It is Ingen’s policy to provide a comprehensive programme of training and experience, ensuring that all engineers seeking Chartered Engineer status develop a wide knowledge of appropriate professional engineering skills. The training scheme will also provide a broad understanding of applied chemical engineering to the benefit of the company, its employees and its clients.
Conor Quinn – Winner of Energy Institute MSc. Student Best Energy Paper Competition
Congratulations to Conor Quinn a Process Engineer with Ingen for winning
first place in the Energy Institute MSc. Student Best Energy Paper Competition.
Conor and seven other representatives were invited to the competition all having previously won an EI Award for Best MSc. project on their respective courses from the Robert Gordon University and the University of Aberdeen. After a short presentation and Q&A session the outcome was decided a panel of judges.
Conor studied the MSc Oil & Gas Engineering at RGU and his MSc project was carried out with Ingen. The title of his project was “A Knowledge-Based Concept Stage Development Screening Tool for Artificial Lift & Subsea Processing Technologies"
Well Done Conor!

New Investment to Establish Training Scheme at Ingen-Ideas Ltd
INGEN-IDEAS LIMITED has implemented an Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) approved training course for all non-chartered chemical engineers within the company. The company is investing heavily in training and development of staff and believes that even in this current economic climate it is worthwhile and necessary to position the business for success going forward. Robbie Leask, Technical Director believes that: “implementing this training scheme builds on our commitment to grow and develop all our employees.”
Senior management believes the industry skills shortage is ever present even in this fragile economic environment and wants to position the company for future growth. “Investment in staff is one of the key goals of the company and implementation of the training scheme has been in preparation for almost two years.” Wayne Strachan, Commercial Director.
It is the Ingen’s policy to provide a comprehensive programme of training and experience, ensuring that all engineers seeking Chartered Engineer status develop a wide knowledge of appropriate professional engineering skills. The training scheme will also provide a broad understanding of applied chemical engineering to the benefit of the company, its employees and its clients.
It is expected that all participants in the scheme will be in a position to apply for full Corporate membership typically within three to five years through a combination of experience developed through direct work assignments, including secondments and training – both formal courses and “on the job” training as defined by Ingen’s approved scheme. In doing so, it is expected that an engineer will meet the requirements as set out by the IChemE.
Ingen Birthday Celebration
As a celbration of 10 years in business Ingen invited friends and colleagues to the Art Gallery for a drinks reception on Thursday 26th June.
Ingen Creates New Position and Prepares for Significant Growth
Ingen Ideas have created a new position in the company for a Flow Assurance Manager to lead and develop the expanding team focused on this service within Ingen.
Russell Cutler, an expert with over 20 years experience in flow assurance modelling in the Oil & Gas industry, has been recruited to create and head up the flow assurance team within Ingen to service clients in Aberdeen and internationally. A significant increase in the number of flow assurance projects, both in the UK and overseas, has prompted this investment, together with increasing our service offering by directly offering transient analysis using specialist simulation software.
The position is underpinned by the significant investment in specialist software, OLGA, to allow Ingen to carry out transient analysis of oil and gas pipelines in house. Operations Director Andy Robertson comments that, “This investment in the new position and software is a significant step change for Ingen in the improvement and delivery of our services. The investment in OLGA and recruitment of Russell further underpins our commitment and ability to deliver successful flow assurance projects, from concept to production.
“Our objective is to grow this team in house and create a further five positions over the next year, which based on our current workload and increasing demands from the Middle East, is well within our reach.”
Ingen Increases In-house Simulation Capability
![]()
Ingen Ideas has recently made significant investment to improve process and flow assurance simulation capability by adding the OLGA transient simulation package to the current service offering, which includes HYSYS Dynamics and RAVE integrated asset modelling. The ability to manage transient analysis in house and to a very high standard has become a key component in the company’s ability to support fast track developments for key clients, and to reduce any potential delays in analysis. Ingen has already secured several orders for work with the new package and believes that this integrated capability will be a very attractive proposition for new and existing clients in the UK and internationally.
Technical Director Robbie Leask comments, "although we've offered a successful transient analysis management service for 10 years, using specialist suppliers, our company has now grown to a size where we are best placed to execute this work in-house. This investment will reduce project interfaces, improve delivery schedules and be a vehicle to further support our engineers' personal development. We also see it as a research tool to evaluate in-house development projects, for example in the area of Carbon Capture and Storage, where we've been heavily involved for the last four years."
Ingen Celebrates 10 Year Milestone
Ingen Ideas recently celebrated the company’s tenth anniversary. Established in 2000, the company has grown from a small serviced office in Regent Quay to having a fully equipped engineering office in the city centre of Aberdeen with over forty staff, and a permanent office in Dubai servicing the clients in the Middle East. Over the past ten years the company has continued to make significant investments in software, both in the leasing of industry specific simulation packages such as Olga and Hysys, and in the development of its own integrated asset modelling software, RAVE. The company has also continued to develop its capabilities in simulation and field development optimisation both in the UK and overseas. During the past ten years the company has constantly developed the technical capabilities of the staff and has actively worked in exciting and innovating areas in the industry, such as the satellite accelerator scheme, promote licensing scheme, and more recently working in the area of Carbon Capture and Storage where it has participated in projects both in the UK and internationally.
